Principal’s Update

Dear families,

Welcome back to Term 2. It has been wonderful to come back and see the growth in our students and meeting our new students since I went on leave. I wish to thank Natasha Miller and our school leadership team, Janelle Ellement, Candice Burns and Sam Ewen-Hinson for the leadership of the school whilst I was on leave. What has been achieved in the past year, is a testament to our school, staff and community. I am looking forward to continuing to work with the team to provide high quality education outcomes for our students.

We are in the final stages of finalising the staffing process for a teacher in ES4 and I hope to be able to share with you who will commence in the position after Mrs Munrowd.

Last week, our students participated in learning and the importance of remembrance of our service personal for ANZAC Day and our Year 3 to 6's attended the Primary School service.

The beginning of the term marked the start of Djeran (season of the adulthood)

Djeran season at last sees a break in the really hot weather. A key indicator of the change of season is the cool nights that once again bring a dewy presence for us to discover in the early mornings. The winds have also changed, especially in their intensity, with light breezes being the go and generally swinging from southerly directions (i.e. south east to south west). Many flying ants can be seen cruising around in the light winds. Djeran is a time of red flowers especially from the Red Flowering Gum (Corimbia ficifolia), as well as the smaller and more petite flowers of the Summer Flame (Beaufortia aestiva). As you travel around the Perth area, you may also notice the red 'rust' and seed cones forming on the male and female Sheoaks (Allocasuarina fraseriana). Banksias start to display their flowers, ensuring that there are nectar food sources for the many small mammals and birds that rely upon them.

Our P&C are running a Mother's Day Raffle with some amazing prizes. If you would like to be in the running, raffle tickets have been sent home with your child. If you would like more tickets, please contact our front office staff. The 19th of May 2023 is P&C Day, on this day we recognise our amazing P&C for the work and fundraising they do within our school. If you see our P&C members around, please extend a 'thank you' it does go a long way. I am looking forward to supporting them moving forward with specific funding projects that provide opportunities for our students.

On behalf of our school community, I would like to thank Benita Bargerbos for her time and dedication to our School Board over the last few years. Benita has been a parent representative on our School Board since 2021 and we wish her well on her future ventures as she retires from the Board.

With Benita’s retirement we are seeking a new parent representative to join our School Board. We meet once a term and would love for YOU to join us! If this is something you are interested in, please fill out the nomination form and hand into the front office by close of business on Friday 19/05/2023. If you have any questions about what the role involves please don’t hesitate to give me a call.

In week 4 and 5 we have in-term swimming at Armadale Aquatic Centre. This is a new model of swimming for the school and preparation has commenced in supporting our students for a successful two weeks in the program. Thank you to Candice for her leadership and organisation of this.

As we move into the 'flu season' please remember the importance of using hygiene measures to keep yourself well.

Kind regards,

Natasha Naylor
Principal
